I loved woodworking back in school; 30 years later and I've decided to get back into it for practical and creative reasons. I miss the behemoths we had in woodshop class. After pricing out materials to make a large bench, and considering the additional tools I'd have to buy, I opted for a kit.
Sjoberg came recommended by acquaintences and online sources, and the 1660 seemed a good size, fair-featured kit bench, at a very reasonable price. It's hard to package a large and heavy item so it's not damaged at all in transit -- I appreciate that reality. The packaging did a decent job -- there were a few superficial dings/scratches. It's a workbench, so it's going to get those anyway.
Assembly would have been easy, if the parts were better crafted.
1. Don't make tenons from the knotty part of a board. Three of mine were, two of which cracked.
2. Make your mortise as long as your tenon; most tenons were 0.8 - 2.0 mm longer than their corresponding mortise. I didn't have a narrow enough chisel to work the mortise larger, so I had to carefully shave the tenons down.
3. Make your holes line up. One of the hole 'pairs' was off by 14 mm. Which doesn't seem like much (esp. on a longer span), but it's more than enough to make a piece out-of-square.
As mentioned by a prior reviewer, the bench is a bit light; Sjoberg recommends bolting it to the floor. I'll probably add a second shelf underneath, and store heavier items there, to give it more overall weight.
I don't know that there's a better bench for the price; I know that in a few years, if I've stuck with woodworking, I'll build myself a larger and more stable bench.

I have used this bench for quite some time.
I must say that it have created even more joy and qualitytime with my kids than I ever could expect.
Sure it is not the largest and most expensive workbench you can get, but for the purpose of fixing broken things, makeing small furntire togehter with kids it is perfect.
Considering the time I spend with my workbench and the years it will last it is a bargain.
If you are thinking of buying a good quality workbench - do it - you won't regret it.

I am very happy with the workbench. I've only had it for a week or so, but it's been great for repairs and small projects. I purchased with the optional cupboard, which is a useful accessory and does appear to add some heft.
Pros: good build, goes together well, very functional, efficient use of space
Cons: packaging, as mentioned with reviews of other Sjoberg Nordic benches, is not adequate to protect product during shipping. My bench showed up with a few moderate cracks and dents.
